Now, I am really skipping a step here. You might be wondering how did I get to Christianity to begin with. It appears that I jumped straight from God to Christianity, as if to say that is the only option for someone seeking enlightenment. I came to Christianity for the same reason that I am a Democrat: I love people. This connection between Christianity and the Democratic Party might seem odd, especially for the many Americans who associate Republicans with religiousness, the same association I, too, have always made. However, for me, the Democratic party is the party of social justice, acceptance and compassion, three traits that Jesus not only demonstrated, but also espoused. I have never found the religious-right, or Republicans for that matter, to be very accepting of the frailty of humans, but rather judgmental, which is a characteristic that Jesus spoke against. But, here I am, being judgmental myself. Needless to say, the path that Jesus has laid down, feels like the right path for me.

So once having decided on Christianity and more specifically Protestantism, the question then becomes, which denomination. Although Protestantism grew out of the reforms in Europe in the middle of the last millennium, the denominations since then have developed their own philosophies, many of which are really the splitting-of-hairs.
