I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer. (Psalms 17:6 [show] I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God; incline your ear to me; hear my words.

Being new to prayer, I have wondered: “how should I pray?”, “am I praying correctly?”, “is there even a correct way to pray?”, “how should I interpret Matthew 6:9-13 [show] Pray then like this:
"Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
–literally or as a formula?”, “what should I pray about?”, “should prayer just be about exalting His name?”, “should I just pray in thanksgiving?”, “what if I forget to thank Him for something?”, “can I ask for things?”, “should I ask for things?”, “is it petty to ask for help on small things?”, “is it blasphemous to not ask for help on all things?”
For a week prior to starting my new job, I was able to join the prayer team at church in their 6 am prayer sessions. I gained much by joining them, including a great sense of the power or prayer. Having been raise outside of the church environment, prayer was not a part of my daily life. But thanks to the women of the prayer team, I now has a much stronger connection to God through prayer.
Since that week, I’ve been praying in a far less formal style than I am used to seeing in church. It was actually a sermon that I heard that lead me to this. We were encouraged to go to the father in the spirit of a child, and as a child would go to their daddy.
