“And if the prophet is enticed to utter a prophecy, I the LORD have enticed that prophet…” (Ezekiel 14:9 [show] And if the prophet is deceived and speaks a word, I, the LORD, have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand against him and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel. Being a man grounded in science, facts and logic, I am the last person one would, and should, expect to believe in miracle and signs.  I’ve scoffed throughout my life at self-proclaimed prophets and miracle-workers.  What mere human could be capable of such?  Obviously the problem is not in the answer, but rather the question.

Studying the Bible, it is very clear that our God is a revealed god.  He reveals what He chooses to reveal of Himself at various times.  God revealed Himself to Moses by a name not known to Adam, Noah, Jacob or any of the earlier patriarchs.  God revealed His word through the law to the children of Israel, and then to all mankind through His manifestation in the person of Jesus.  God revealed His will through Elijah, Elisha, Hosea and many others.  So obviously our God is a revealed God who peels back the cover of the book to show us exactly what we are prepared to see at that moment and no more, nor no less.

But where are the burning bushes of our day?  Where are the angels to deliver messages?  Where are the voices from heaven?
